Students discussed the importance of images by analysing their purpose and understanding how they influence daily lives.
These were my notes I gathered from class.
Images are tied to a culture, time, space, ideology, religion.
The process of looking at images?
- First impression
- Interpret meaning
- Making a judgement
What might be problematic in terms of images?
- Resonate to some but not all
- Ideology / Propoganda
- Controversial, Political
- All representation is always biased
- Even though images may be biased at a particular time, it’s temporary because overtime things change. e.g something that might not correlate with paintings in the past such as cave paintings might not correlate with today’s diet as the nutrition is different.
